TECHNO

Brad Morris, Kent State University

My role in Meridio/CA DREAMS is to help design effective experiences that improve STEM learning, engagement, and identity in and out of the classroom. We have been working with teachers to help them co-design science and math instruction to incorporate student interests. This approach highlights the relevance of science and math in their lives and helps students see that they belong in STEM classes and careers.

We have designed afterschool activities and experiential summer camps that allow students to learn about STEM through hands-on, authentic experiences such as activities related to semiconductors (e.g., cleanroom tours at USC) and marine biology (Alta Sea).  The opportunity to explore new areas of science and engineering, such as nanotechnology, and interact with those working these fields help students understand that they belong in the most important fields in the 21st century economy.
