Through hands-on labs and demonstrations, participants gain competence working with professional tools such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and signal generators, as well as the confidence and mindsets necessary to identify and fix errors in complex circuits. Exposure […] - [2026 California DREAMS Undergraduate Fellows Program Application](https://dreamsgold.org/apply2026/): 2026 USC Semiconductor Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program The California DREAMS SURF Program at the University of Southern California provides undergraduates with immersive summer experiences in advanced microelectronics, featuring two distinct training programs: The Cleanroom Gateway provides hands-on training in nanofabrication, giving students direct experience in fabricating and testing semiconductor devices. The Analog BootCamp builds student expertise in board design, debugging, and instrumentation through hands-on labs and demonstrations. Both programs feature a Lunch & Learn speaker series with panels of industry leaders and provide opportunities to earn IEEE micro-credentials. Participants may apply to one or both programs, each of which includes […] - [Needs Assessment](https://dreamsgold.org/needs-assessment/): Add Your Heading Text Here Southern California Regional Needs Assessment The California DREAMS Hub has released its first comprehensive Workforce Development Needs Assessment, a data-driven analysis of semiconductor labor demand across Los Angeles, San Diego, and Santa Barbara counties. Using real-time labor market intelligence and the new JobPulse tool, this report identifies a regional shortfall of roughly 20% in semiconductor talent, most acutely among engineers, but also spanning scientists, technicians, and operational support roles. You can download and view the report here. - [Research](https://dreamsgold.org/research/): Research at California DREAMS Focus California DREAMS is utilizing innovative research initiatives to generate measurable outcomes and rapid feedback loops that bridge education and industry needs. Our research focuses on workforce development, skill enhancement, and math identity in middle-school students. Projects Latest research articles - [Resources](https://dreamsgold.org/resources/): Resources This handbook is designed to help you implement and replicate our Cleanroom Gateway program at your institution. Use this handbook as a guide to build, adapt, and expand cleanroom training initiatives that meet your needs. With its step-by-step guidance, you will empower students and fellows to gain hands-on cleanroom experience, culminating in IEEE micro-credentials that showcase their skills and prepare them for real-world opportunities in the semiconductor industry. - [IEEE Micro-Credentials](https://dreamsgold.org/ieee-micro-credentials/): IEEE Micro-Credentials Our partnership with IEEE, the largest engineering nonprofit in the world, allows students to earn industry-recognized stackable micro-credentials on various laboratory instruments and equipment. Importantly, the students can earn these credentials in small blocks, such that they are “stackable.” Completion enables students to place IEEE badges on their LinkedIn profiles and their resumes. The Cleanroom Gateway program emphasizes short introductions and demonstrations, followed by participants using equipment under supervision. These sessions are not designed to create expertise but instead represent an initial exposure.  As a result, most micro-credentials  are labeled as an “Introduction to X” (for fabrication step X). Industry experts agree […] - [Cleanroom Gateway](https://dreamsgold.org/gateway/): Cleanroom Gateway Overview: The Cleanroom Gateway is a hands-on training program developed by the University of Southern California (USC) and the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) with support from the DOW Microelectronics Commons. It introduces participants to the environment, tools, and practices of semiconductor microfabrication, preparing them for further training or employment in the field. Participants earn stackable IEEE micro-credentials that can be added to their resume or LinkedIn profile. The Gateway model can also be adopted by other cleanroom facilities to train learners with no prior experience in semiconductors or microfabrication. Explore Semiconductor Training at USC: At USC, the Cleanroom Gateway […] - [K-12](https://dreamsgold.org/k-12/): K-12 Activities In partnership with Change the Tune, the Summer Studio Camp helps middle school students build confidence and a sense of belonging in STEM fields through hands-on activities and collaborative projects inspired by real-world uses of semiconductor technology. Students explore how their ideas can drive innovation, gaining practical exposure to STEM concepts while fostering critical skills like leadership, problem-solving, and self-efficacy. By empowering students to see themselves as future innovators and contributors, the program strengthens America’s ability to cultivate the skilled workforce needed to maintain leadership in semiconductor manufacturing and advanced technologies. Parents should contact Change the Tune for […] - [DREAMS Courses](https://dreamsgold.org/dreams-courses/): Cleanroom Gateway Focus California DREAMS is committed to advancing knowledge in microelectronics through innovative research initiatives that bridge education and industry needs.
